Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an antifungal medication used to treat fungal infections of the skin, urinary tract, and respiratory system. Fluconazole works by inhibiting fungal cell membrane formation, which helps to alleviate symptoms such as itching, burning, and discharge. Fluconazole has several advantages over other antifungals such as systemic symptoms such as vesiculitis, vaginal yeast infections, and pulmonary fungal infections. Fluconazole is typically prescribed for systemic fungal infections such as thrush, genital yeast infections, and the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Fluconazole is also available as an oral tablet. To treat thrush, you can take fluconazole orally, as directed by your doctor. Fluconazole is available in tablet form. It is typically taken once a day for severe or recurring fungal infections. The dosage of fluconazole depends on the severity of the condition and the patient's age and weight. For adults, the dosage may be 2.5 or 5 milligrams (mg), depending on the condition being treated. Children's dosages typically range from 5 to 10 mg daily. Fluconazole is also available in capsule form, and it can be taken with or without food. You should not eat any dairy products or dairy products containing magnesium or aluminum. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information if you do not understand the dosage requirements. Fluconazole may cause side effects such as headache, nausea, vaginal yeast infections, and vesiculitis. To reduce the risk of side effects, you should take fluconazole for the entire time prescribed in order to benefit from the medication. It is also important to complete the full course of treatment to ensure the infection is fully treated and to prevent re-infection.
